About the Release

Out There In The Dark is the celebrated second album from Detroit’s Outrageous Cherry, originally released in 1999 and finally issued on vinyl for its 25th anniversary. Sweet harmonies and melodic pop sensibilities collide with fuzzed-out guitars, tape saturation, psychedelic textures and hypnotic grooves, creating a strange meeting point between AM pop, garage rock and experimental psychedelia. Recorded at Jim Diamond’s Ghetto Recorders, the album’s warm analogue production and adventurous arrangements give it a distinctly hazy, timeless character.

About the Artist

Formed in Detroit in 1992, Outrageous Cherry are a psychedelic rock band led by Matthew Smith, whose constantly evolving lineups have drawn on garage rock, pop, psychedelia and experimental music. The group emerged from Detroit’s fertile underground scene and developed a distinctive sound built around Smith’s songwriting, vintage recording techniques and an affection for the melodic side of psychedelic rock. The lineup on Out There In The Dark featured Smith alongside Larry Ray, Chad Gilchrist and Deb Agolli.
