“Everybody is just here for the music, the fuzz and the beers. The people in the community are also very curious about the genre and don’t hesitate to discover new or small bands and share them, whether they’re famous or not.”

“Maybe 10 years ago I heard Finnish doom band Reverend Bizarre. My friend played their song ‘Dunkelheit‘ to me at a house party. Slow and crushing disciplined riffs really sucked me to another place. It probably wasn’t absolutely the first time, but it was an important moment that broadened my interests as a music listener.”

“That must have been Föllakzoid’s gig at Vera Groningen in The Netherlands in 2013. I was at the gig without company, completely sober and during their last song, ‘Pulsar‘, I slipped into some kind of time-space vortex. I closed my eyes and fully lost track of time. That was an experience to remember.” Read more…

“After the band had played, they came out on stage to thank the audience and hand out picks, drum sticks and such. I missed the drum sticks because I was too short. I also missed the picks and was a bit disappointed, but as the band turned around to walk backstage, Mick Box (lead guitarist) turned around, reached out over the crowd and shook my hand. I was star struck and it is something I will never forget.” Read more…

“A friend of mine spontaneously caught a plane from Switzerland and we took some Hawaiian baby woodrose seeds in the early afternoon. A few seeds and blunts later, I was in unity with the universe – totally carefree. The band, with their peaceful but strong riffs, combined with patterns turning into oily and flashing paintings, affected my body and mind so much that I felt timeless and far away, but really here.” Read more…

“I can’t decide between Heavy Days in Doomtown in Denmark and Freak Valley Festival in Germany. Different vibes / atmospheres, different venues / surroundings, different crowd, slightly different music… But both just as awesome as each other and made me feel at home, like a huge family!”

“When you live in a tiny town in the Southern United States, you don’t have a choice but to travel for the tunes and bands you love, so a four-hour drive to Raleigh for Elephant Stone, or ten hours to Philly for SpindriftBlaak Heat and The Flying Eyes really takes about as much effort as runnin’ to the mart for some milk. When the scene has done so much for you, your head, your life, your personal development, you’ll go outta your way to give anything back that you can. Miles ain’t shit to us.”
